Im ersten Teil von «Ittu'me inglisch'e – Matteänglisch» nehmen uns die Autoren mit auf einen Rundgang durch das Berner Mattequartier. Hier entwickelten im anfänglichen Mittelalter Flösser, Fischer und Handwerker aus aller Welt ihre eigene Geheimsprache, das Matteänglisch. Die Mattebewohner kommen in einem zweiten Teil zu Wort. Sie erzählen darin eindrückliche Geschichten aus dem letzten Jahrhundert und von ihrem immer wiederkehrenden Kampf gegen das Hochwasser der Aare. Heutige Kinder berichten von ihren Streichen, den Abenteuern am Mattebach und wo sich der grusligste Ort der Matte befindet. Im sprachlichen Teil werden wir eingeführt in Aufbau und Bedeutung des Mattedialekts und des Matteänglisch. Zahlreiche Sprachbeispiele, die auch auf der beiliegenden CD zu hören sind, sowie ein Wörterverzeichnis runden dieses Werk ab.
