The compiler of this book was the first to discover and visit the farm, Plankenpickl, in Austria which was the origin for the original Austrian German spelling of the name. A picture of this farm is included, as well as many documents for William's grandfather,

William Blankenbeckler was born with that name in Wythe/Smyth Co., Virginia. He migrated to East Tennessee and his descendants changed the name to just Beckler, which was easier to spell.

The compiler of this book was the first to discover and visit the farm, Plankenpickl, in Austria which was the origin for the original Austrian/German spelling of the name. A picture of this farm is included, as well as many documents for William's grandfather, Zachariah Blankenbeckler, who is credited as being a DAR patriot. The Plankenpickles, with several related families, emigrated to Virginia with Gov. Spotswood. The book traces William's descendants, mostly female since he only had two sons, including those who left Tennessee, and includes almost 1000 obituaries.
